Hybridizer

“Hybridizer” is an AMI project created by the animator Kajetan Obarski and the programmer Igor Hardy, and conducted in cooperation with Łukasz Kozak, an expert on digital collections.

The 17th century figures of animals come from Matthäus Merian's workshop and were published in the zoological works of Polish naturalist Jan Jonston. Now they have been digitised, restored, split in halves and re-animated for Hybridizer. This is how pikats, alpacosauruses, snailapes and elquirrels are created, demonstrating the potential hidden in non-obvious matches. An identical potential can be found in digital culture, whose creators increasingly have to go beyond the language of a single medium, seek and cross borders. The conference will feature a broad perspective of these hybrid works, activities, and creative strategies. The interactive “Hybridizer” application will be launched in early August. The app will be one of the projects presented at the Digital Cultures Conference on 24-25 September in Warsaw.
